The election of five city corporations will be held in July this year few months ahead of the 11th Parliamentary election.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda on Thursday told the journalists after visiting the upazila election office at Poba of Rajshahi district.
“The elections to Gazipur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet city corporations will be held before the Parliamentary elections. The election schedule is yet to be finalized, but primarily I think the elections would be held by July,” Nurul Huda said.
The five-year tenure of Gazipur City Corporation will expire on September 4 while that of Sylhet on September 8, Khulna on September 25, Rajshahi on October 5 and Barisal on October 23.
The CEC said the parliamentary election will be held between December 20, 2018 and January 20, 2019 but the Election Commission right now is taking preparations for five city corporation polls.
He also said Electronic Voting Machines would be used in the city corporation polls, but it is yet to be finalized.
