Left Democratic Alliance on Monday wrote to the Election Commission demanding its action against those who attacked opposition campaigns.
The alliance of eight leftwing parties, which are taking part in the upcoming election, submitted a letter to the commission on Monday morning in this regard.
Ruhin Hossain Prince, a leader of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), delivered the letter to Election Commission office at Agargaon.
In the letter signed by the alliance’s Convener Md Shah Alam, the alliance leaders alleged that their leaders and activists came under attacks during campaigns countrywide.
He said that they complained to the commission about the attacks on their party candidates across the country and filing of the fictitious cases are being filed against them.
“In some areas where returning officers are taking proper actions, we are observing progress. The Commission has agreed with us that the election officials’ courage and morale can deliver a fair poll,” he added.
He also said if the law enforcement agencies don’t comply with the EC’s directives, then it will be the liability of the commission.
“Most people of Bangladesh are yet to participate in the election campaign. We have confidence on the commission that they will create a proper election environment,” he said.
