Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar in a meeting with officials of administration, election commission and law enforcing agencies at Barishal circuit house on Monday morning asked to work all for making BCC election credible and acceptable.
He said we do not want to see repetitions of unhappy incidents like illegal and forcibly entrance in vote centers, snatching ballot papers and ballot boxes in BCC election.
In democratic country election should credible and acceptable to all and democracy could not flourish by conducting controversial election. So election should be free fair impartial and meaningful conducting on level playing field, the EC added.
He asked the officials specially the law enforcing agencies to ensure safe movement and journey to vote centers and return home from there.
We follow zero-tolerance theory about law and order and any violence or negligence in executing that would be treated hardly under the election act of 1991. Law enforcing agencies also asked to act hardly and impartially without any fear, Mahbub Talukdar added.
Any attempt to deteriorated lawlessness should be prevented at any cost with highest effort and police and other agencies of law enforcing agencies must know the meaning of this direction, the EC told.
Habibur Rahman, deputy commissioner, presided over and among others Nurul Alam, acting divisional commissioner, addressed the meeting.
The EC will meet the candidates of BCC election for exchanging views about following election conduct rule at afternoon.
