Nat'l Weightlifting: Eight lifters earn gold on opening day

Eight weightlifters bagged gold medals on the opening day of the National Club and Inter-Service Weightlifting Competition from their respective groups and weight categories at National Sports Council Gymnasium here on Sunday.
In the 12th National Club Men’s group, Raj Kumar of Officers’ Club lifted overall 190 kg (snatch 83kg and jerk 107kg) in the 56kg weight category to bag gold while Sohag Ali of Dhaka Arambagh Club lifted overall 192 kg (snatch 80kg and jerk 112kg) in the 62 kg category. In the 10th National Club Women’s group, Mitu Akter of Ershad Nagar Club lifted overall 50kg (snatch 25kg and jerk 25 kg) in the 44kg weight category while her teammate Sohagi lifted overall 78kg (snatch 35 kg and jerk 43 kg) in the 48kg category to clinch their gold medals. Meanwhile, in the 2nd Inter-Service Men’s Weightlifting Competition, Mohammad Ain Uddin of Bangladesh Ansar earned gold lifting overall 200kg (snatch 95kg and jerk 105kg) in the 56kg weight category while his teammate Monayem Billah bagged gold lifting overall 220 kg (snatch 95kg and jerk 125kg) in the 62kg category.
In the 2nd Inter-Service Women’s Weightlifting Competition, Mollah Sabira Sultana of Bangladesh Ansar secured gold in the 48kg weight category lifting overall 115kg (snatch 50 kg and jerk 65 kg) while Smriti Akter of Bangladesh Army lifted overall 110kg (snatch 50 kg and jerk 60 kg) in the 44kg category to secure her gold.
