Eight people were killed and several others injured in road accidents in Joypurhat, Tangail, Narayanganj and Sirajganj districts on Friday.
In Joypurhat, a policeman was killed and another injured as a battery-run auto-rickshaw crashed into their motorcycle at Harendra village in Panchbibi upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased was identified as constable Akter Hossain, son of late Alif Uddin of Keshabpur village in Birampur upazila of Dinajpur while the injured is assistant sub-inspector Shahidul Islam.
Officer-in-charge of Panchbibi Police Station Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal said the accident happened around 12:45pm while the policemen were going to arrest some warranted accused at Shalaipur village, leaving the duo injured.
They were first rushed to Joypurhat Modern Hospital from where they were shifted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra.
Constable Akter succumbed to his injuries at the hospital after some time.
In Tangail, three people were killed in a collision between a bus and a tempo at Deulabari in Ghatail upazila in the afternoon. The deceased could not be identified yet.
Witnesses said Tangail-bound bus of ‘Prantik Paribahan’ from Mymensingh
collided head-on with the tempo in the area around 5:15pm, leaving three tempo passengers dead on the spot and two others injured. The injured were rushed to Tangail Medical College Hospital.
In Narayanganj, three people were killed and 12 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a leguna (human hauller) in Araihazar upazila in the afternoon.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Mohammad Alamgir, Officer-in-Charge of Araihazar Police Station, said the accident took place when the Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Meghalay Paribahan’ from Narsingdi hit the leguna in Purinda bus stand on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at about 1pm, leaving a passenger dead on the spot and 14 others injured.
Of the injured, two succumbed to their injuries at hospitals.
In Sirajganj, a truck driver was killed and another injured as their trucks collided at Chandakona in Raiganj upazila in the early hours.
The deceased was identified as Sultan, son of Hafizur Rahman of Uchungi village in Sherpur upazila of Bogra.
The two trucks collided in the area at around 6am, leaving Sultan dead on the spot.
