Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained at least eight more persons on the charge of spreading rumour on different social media centering 11th National Election of the country.
Accused have been identified as Mahmudur Hasan, 27, Abdullah Al Noman, 26, A. Kader, 28, Morshedul Islam, 22, Saiful Islam Mithu, 29, Didarul Islam, 35, Arifur Rahman, 34, and Motahar Hossain ,21.
They were arrested from Maghbazar and Mowchak areas in the city on Friday midnight.
RAB’s Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan confirmed the matter to media at Rab Media Center in Karwanbazar, Dhaka on Saturday.
RAB arrested about 35 people on various occasions so far for spreading rumour centering the election. The group received an amount of tk 47 lakh from another group.
However, the sources of funding could not be recognized yet, Mahmud Khan added.
The 11th national election is slated for December 30.
