The holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of the Muslims celebrated on Saturday in the Port city as elsewhere in the district with due religious fervor and gaiety despite rains. Eid prayers held in mosques and other outdoor locations across the port city and its adjacent districts.
Back from prayers amid rains, people visit friends, relatives, neighbors and specially the eldest members of the families.
A total of 259 Eid congregations including three big ones at M A Aziz Stadium and Jamiatul Falah Mosque (2 successively at the same venue with half an hour interval) were held in the port city under the auspices of Chattogram Central Eid Jamaat Committee (CCEJC) and Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) respectively.
A large number of devotees participated in the gatherings and prayed for divine blessing for the peace, prosperity and stability of the country as well as Muslim Ummah.
Chattogram metropolitan and district police sources said Eid-ul-Fitr Jamaats in the city and district were held in festivity but people suffered rain.
The authority had taken adequate security measures by deploying RAB, Police and Ansars at various strategic points in the city to keep vigil on law and order situation during before and after Eid.
Muslim males – octogenarian to juvenile, affluent to downtrodden attired with fine dresses gathered at nearest Mosques and selected open spaces in the morning and offered their Eid prayers.
Soon after the offering prayers, people exchanged greetings and embraced each other’s in the spirit of brotherhood, love and equality.
Of the biggest three, one Eid congregation was held at M.A. Aziz Stadium at 8.30 a.m organized by CCEJC and two others were held successively at Jamiatul Falah Mosque at 8 a.m and 8.30 a.m under the auspices of CCC.
Other major Eid Congregation were held at Andarkilla Shahi Jame Mosque, Laldhighi Maidan, Parade Maidan, Masjeed-e-Baitus Sharf at Kadamtali, Pologround Railway Public high school Maidan, Shah Amanat Shah (Rh) Dargah Maidan, Metropolitan Police line Maidan, Agrabad Jamboree field, Baizeed
Bostami (Rh) Dargah Mosque, in between 8 a.m to 8.30 a.m.
Minister for Expatriates welfare Nurul Islam, BSC, City Mayor A Z M Nasir uddin, acting President of Chittagong city Awami League Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury, former Ministers Abdullah Al Noman, Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin and Jafrul Islam Chowdhury, Awami League (AL) central organizing secretary Barrister Chowdhury Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, AL leader Moslem Uddin Ahmed,BNP city unite President Dr Shahdat Hossain,Jatiya Party city President Solyman Alam Shet and Jatiya Party leader Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury were among others elites and politicians in Chottagram offered Eidul Fitr Namaj at Jamiatul Falah Mosque.
On this occasion, concerned authorities have also served improved diets among the inmates of hospitals, jails, orphanages, and also in youth and juveniles centers run by the Social Welfare departments.
According to reports reaching here from fourteen upazilas of the district that people in the rural areas are also celebrating their Eid festival with huge zeal and enthusiasm.
Officials of the district administration here quoting local administrations sources said that hundreds of Eid congregations were held peacefully at Mosques and selected open spaces in every Paras, Mahallas in the rural areas.
