Eid-ul-Azha, the second biggest religious festival of Muslim Umma, was observed with religious fervour and festivity in the port city on Tuesday.
The main Eid congregation was held at Jamiatul Falah Masjid compound following two more congregations.
Chittagong City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasiruddin, Former Mayor Alhajj ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury and other political leaders of the city attended the Eid congregation.
The Eid congregations were held in 253 different places across the city organized by the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC). Meanwhile, most of the city dwellers went to their village home to observe the festival with their relatives.
The six-day Eid holiday that began from Friday had ended on Thursday.
The public and private offices have been opened. But weekly holidays are on Friday and Saturday respectively.
 So, most of the official staff did not join their workplace.
Holiday spree is still continuing in the port city, as most of the city dwellers did not return to their city residences.
Meanwhile, operations in the Chittagong Port have started fully with loading and unloading of cargo.
Port sources said operations remained suspended only on Eid day for giving opportunity to the workers to observe their Eid festival. The operations in the port resumed since the day after Eid.
During the Eid day and the following day, the city-streets looked vacant with a few numbers of people visiting their relatives’ house in the city.
From Friday, the city-dwellers who went to their village home to observe the festival have started to return to their workplaces after enjoying holiday.
Almost all the shopping malls and markets remain closed as the employees and the shop-owners are enjoying weeklong holiday.
About 60 to 70 per cent city-dwellers have their family in native village outside the port city. As a result, almost all of them went to their village home to enjoy Eid vacation with nearest and dearest ones. Only the permanent residents of the city remained to observe the festival here.
During the Eid day and the following days of the festival the tourist spots of the city including Foy’s Lake, Chittagong Zoo, Children Park and the Patenga sea beach remained full of visitors who are interested enjoying the holiday with their family members.
For this reason, the local spots of the city have taken all preparations to welcome the visitors during Eid holidays.
The authorities of Foy’s Lake and children parks have taken special measures to attract the visitors.
Besides, the holidaymakers are visiting the tourist spots in the hilly districts of Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Kaptai, and Cox’s Bazar sea beach.
