The private bus operators will start selling advance tickets ahead of Eid-ul-Azha from August 18 with a view to ensuring hassle-free journey for Eid passengers.
The decision was taken at a meeting of bus owners and managers held on Friday, Md Salauddin, a member of Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners’ Association, said on Saturday.
Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners Association Chairman Faruk Talukder Sohel told The New Nation on Saturday that advance tickets for journey from August 19 would be available on August 18 in the morning at Gabtali terminal.
“The sale of tickets for Eid passengers will start from August 24 and everything will be done that none is disappointed,” he said.
The chairman said that the passengers would get their advance tickets from 6am on August 18.
At the terminal, tickets would be available mainly for northern and south-western districts, said operators.
Shymoli Paribahan Managing Director Ramesh Chandra Ghosh said that demands for tickets for journey between August 26 and August 31 would be the highest.
Passengers, mainly private job holders, will use that time, he added.
Passengers prefer Saidabad and Mohakhali bus terminals to travel without advance tickets.
Every year, tens of thousands of people leave the capital to celebrate Eid with near and dear ones at their village homes. But their pleasures suffer largely due to traffic jam, overcharging of tickets and delays in bus and train schedule.
