BSS, Rangpur :
Effective value chain system can ensure fair price of the locally produced dairy and handicraft products through linking the producers and traders under one umbrella minimizing middlemen interference in the process.
Speakers said this at the inaugural ceremony of a three-day training course on ‘Value Chain Management Training for Producer Group’ organised by World Vision Bangladesh (WVB) at its Fulbari Area Development Programme (ADP) in Fulbari town of Dinajpur on Monday.
The course is being organised for providing knowledge and concept of the value chain approach to the producers in indentifying the issues to create the realistic scopes for accelerating socioeconomic development of the local small-scale entrepreneurs.
Rangpur Divisional Economic Coordinator of WVB Ashraful Islam addressed the ceremony as the chief guest with Programme Manager of Fulbari ADP of the NGO Pabitra B Costa in the chair.
Agriculture Officer of Fulbari ADP of WVB Arbindu Roy and its Programme Officers Pallobi Murmu and Badal Nongmin addressed as the special guests.
Twenty local small-scale entrepreneurs and volunteers of different areas under Fulbari upazila in Dinajpur have been taking part in the training course to be ended on Wednesday.
The speakers said an effective value chain system could benefit the consumers, producers as well and traders involved with the whole process of producing and marketing local products like milk, handicrafts and handloom goods like ‘nakshi kantha’.
They said the producers generally get minimum benefits and consumers spend maximum money in purchasing the local products due to interference of the middlemen at various stages of business communication between consumers and producers.
Interference of middlemen can be reduced through creating linkage or association of the producers and traders using the value chain system in ensuring direct sale of products to the traders to enable them in selling directly to the big consumers, they said.
The chief guest said there is no alternative in establishing an effective value chain system for ensuring fair price of the locally produced products for the producers through marketing of their products easily in a hassle-free manner.
