A three-day International Tourism Fair titled Chittagong Travel Mart- 2018 began at The Peninsula Chittagong Hotel in the port city yesterday, says a press release.
Organised by The Bangladesh Monitor, a leading travel and tourism fortnightly, the Fair was inaugurated by A J M Nasir Uddin, Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) as Chief Guest.
Mahbubul Alam, President, Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Md. Jahangir Hossain, CEO Bangladesh Tourism Board and and Kazi Wahidul Alam, Editor, The Bangladesh Monitor, Hanif Zakaria, Chief Commercial Officer, Regent Airways and Mustak Luhar, General Manager, The Peninsula Chittagong spoke at the opening ceremony of the fair, held in the morning.
The CCC Mayor stressed the need for coordination among the public and private sectors for joint and effective initiatives for overall development of country’s tourism.
Speaking on the occasion CEO of the Bangladesh Tourism Board informed that BTB has undertaken initiative to draw up much awaited Tourism Master Plan for the country and tender has been floated for appointment of consultant to this end. He further said that Bangladesh Tourism Board is going for a digital marketing campaign globally and the results will be visible in the next six months.
The Chattogram Chamber President appealed for better connectivity, improvement of tourism facilities to attract more tourists to the Chattogram region. According to him, millions of dollars can be earned if we can harness the religious tourism potentials of the region.
Earlier in his welcome speech, Kazi Wahidul Alam said, ”Considering the importance and immense tourism potentials of greater Chattogram, The Banglades Monitor has been organising the fair for last nine years. We hope to organise Chittagong Travel Mart at a bigger scale in future.”
He expressed concern over gradual shutting down of commercial operations by the foreign carriers to Chattogram, which according to him would negatively impact the foreign tourist arrivals to the region. He urged upon the Chamber President to play a pioneering role in finding out the actual reasons behind it. He thinks that the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism should take appropriate measures in retaining the foreign airlines.
Over twenty organisations including airlines, tour operators, hotels, resorts, amusement parks and other tourism related service providers are showcasing their products and services at the fair.
Exhibitors are offering special discount on air tickets, hotel rooms, tour packages and other products and services for the visitors.
The fair will remain open for visitors up to October 27, 2018 from 10.30 am to 8.00 pm everyday. Attractive raffle prizes will be given to visitors by the participants everyday.
