UNB, Dhaka :
President of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed on Saturday said Bangladesh attained self-sufficiency in food due to proper management of fertiliser.
“We don’t need to import food any more; it rather can export it after attaining self-sufficiency. The proper use of fertiliser and its proper distribution is the key reason behind food self-sufficiency,” he said while addressing the 21st annual conference of Bangladesh Fertiliser Association (BFA) here.
The conference was held at Officers’ Club with BFA chairman Kamrul Asraf Khan, MP in the chair.
The FBCCI president said had Bangladesh been moved for importing food, the country’s foreign currency reserve would not have been escalated so high.
Speaking on the occasion, Awami League whip in parliament Shahiduzzaman Sarkar appreciated the role of the agriculture sector and said Bangladesh does not require food import now as the country is heading towards progress in other sectors.
Industries secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan and Agriculture secretary Eunusur Rahman also spoke at the conference.
