Using classrooms for political activities by spoiling regular classes have become common phenomena in the recent days amid these incidents draw flake from all quarters of society. News media reported that ruling party lawmaker of Pabna Khandaker Azizul Haque Arzu fed thousands of local villagers by closing all educational activities in a high school for the last three days as a part of his campaign. We must say this incident is an example of the irresponsible behaviour of our lawmakers and thus should be avoided. The leftover food and litter that made the school virtually garbage ultimately engaged employees and students in cleaning work — irksome indeed.
Authorities managed to hold only a few classes on Monday with a few students. But some of the students who attended the classes said they were nauseated by the strong smell of rotten food. Headmaster said that the school practically turned into a garbage station after Saturday’s program. They cooked there and several thousand people ate in the classrooms. Without feeling guiltiness, the lawmaker said that the students and parents would have no problem with what was happening.
Using school or college for political activities by closing classes is an old trend where politicians feel no guilt as the governing bodies are constituted with political men and local MP’s blessing. Lining up students for hours after hours to welcome minister, MP or high government official is an old practice where most of the students become sick. At last, in 2015 the government by issuing notification made the practice illegal.
The students of school and college are the next generations of the country, and the government has been in hard-line to ensure quality education in school level, but a section of ruling party leaders are hindering the government’s effort.
The government and also Speaker of the Parliament could give directives to the MPs and other political leaders not to seize educational institutions in their area for their mere political activities. This kind of activity should be resisted with strong hand.
