The two-day Education UK Exhibition-2015 ended on Friday at Sonargaon Hotel in the city aiming at opening the opportunities of higher studies at renowned higher education institutions in the UK.
The British Council organized the two-day exhibition, 17th educational event of its kind, to create an opportunity for the prospective students and their parents, teachers, HR professionals and training managers to meet representatives of 38 leading educational institutions.
On Thursday, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest while British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert W Gibson addressed it as special guest. Country Director of British Council Barbara Wickham, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
Nahid said Bangladesh has witnessed a remarkable progress in the field of education as the government implemented a number of programmes in the past six years. There are nearly 50 million students in the country, he said adding, “Female students have increased significantly at both primary and secondary level and they have done well in some indexes of education compared to their male peers.”
The minister urged the British council to extend its cooperation for Bangladesh students for enhancing their English Language proficiency, which is needed for access to better job markets.
He hoped that such education exhibition will help Bangladesh students to get the opportunities of higher studies in different renowned education institutions in the UK.
Gibson said the UK is an international destination of choice for higher education from students globally and the UK education prepares them for exciting career and gives them a competitive edge in the global marketplace. “The UK is ready to welcome the brightest and the best students from Bangladesh and every country in the world,” he added.
The British Council actively help students and their parents to learn about study opportunities in the UK, Barbara Wickham said adding, “Our annual education UK Exhibitions showcase the range of study options available in the UK.”
Another two Education UK Exhibitions will be held in Chittagong and Sylhet on February 15 and 18 respectively. Both two exhibitions will remain open from 12noon to 6pm.
