THE High division of the Supreme Court has observed that a section of Bangladesh Bank (BB) officials, tasked with monitoring the activities of banks and financial institutions, are sheltering financial thugs for personal gains. It said it is unfortunate that Bangladesh Bank officials, particularly DGMs, GMs, Executive Directors and Deputy Governors tasked with monitoring banks and financial institutions harbouring financial thugs and money launderers for personal gains.
The one man HC Bench of Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar in this particular case held the Bangladesh Bank accountable in its full order on a petition by a US investor in Bangladesh Industrial Financial Company Ltd (BIFC) seeking the removal of the company’s board in which he has 10 per cent share. The man has apparently lost most of his investment as company officials’ have embezzled huge fund leaving hardly any money to pay the shareholders and depositors.
The court has ordered appointing of an independent auditor to find out total embezzlement of money from the company by its Managing Director PK Halder, and his cohorts who have reportedly laundered Tk 500 crore. Another sponsor and his family have laundered over Tk 1000 crore on false business loans.
Need mention that recently the High Court had demanded names and identity of money launders who are mostly government servants in the words of the Foreign Minister but the attorney general office has told the court that full information was not available. It is no secret that a highly corrupt government which is mainly depending on support of the money launderers and dishonest bureaucrats are sheltering the thugs who are stealing banks and financial institutions and destroying them.
We admire the bold patriotic responses of some benches of the High Court Division, at the same time we know the courage for turning the country into a happy place from unaccountable corruption and abuse of power of self-seeking educated people in State Bank and elsewhere. Even sections of university teachers, lawyers and journalists are also easily available to serve against public interest. We have to keep a watch on these greedy unconscionable educated people. Let us forget the politicians. They have destroyed themselves.
Our greedy educated people have no hesitation to be oppressive against the people because they control the state power forgetting that they are public servants and paid for serving the people. In the absence of election politics we have bureaucracy as the sole power of the government. The anti-people educated ones everywhere are responsible for making the people helpless victims of oppression and exploitations.
We have no politicians but only greedy subservient. Let there be change of government then only we shall know if there is a single selfless politician in the government. Unelected politicians in the government are nothing. They are playing into the hands of clever bureaucrats.
