Staff Reporter :The Editors’ Council on Sunday strongly demanded of the government to repeal the Section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology Act.The editors of the country’s national English and Bengali dailies condemned the misuse of the Section under the ICT Act implementation saying the Act bars free journalism, said a press release.They came up with the demand at a meeting of the organisation held at The Daily Star Centre in city. Editors’ Council President and Samakal Editor Golam Sarwar chaired the meeting.They criticized the arrest and harassment of journalist Probir Sikdar demanding that Section 57 (1) and (2) under the ICT Act be repealed. The Editors’ Council General Secretary and The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam, Treasurer and Manab Zamin Editor Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman, News Today Editor Riazuddin Ahmed, Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shyamol Dutta, Kaler Kantho Editor Imdadul Haq Milon, Bangladesh Protidin Editor Nayeem Nizam, Naya Diganta Editor Alamgir Mohiuddin, Ittefaq’s acting editor Tasmima Hossain, Independent Editor M Shamsur Rahman, Jugantor’s acting editor Saiful Alam, Bonikbarta Editor Dewan Hanif Mahmud and Dhaka Tribune Editor Zafar Sobhan attended the meeting, press relese added.
