President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce & Industry Mahbubul Alam emphasised the immediate implementation of Economic Zone, Bay terminal project and uninterrupted power supply to industrial units in the port city .
He was addressing the round table meet jointly arranged by Junior Chamber International(JCI) and Dainik Barta at Hotel Radison Blu Hall room yesterday as Chief Guest. The roundtable on ‘ Vision-2041 and business ability, challenges’ duly moderated by Banik Barta News Editor Dewan Hanif Mahmood and President of JCI Jasim Ahmed presided. Chamber President said Bangladesh achieved revolution in RMG sectors and continuously exporting pharmaceutical products, leather, ceramic and shipbuilding products to European countries , He requested the central Bank to down the bank interest rate in one digit and said still SME entrepreneurs are borrowing loan at Tk.12-15% bank interests.
To grow up specialized export oriented industries, quick development of special economic zone is essential immediately as the private land in Chittagong is very much costly.
. The speakers in roundtable also demanded uninterrupted supply of gas and power to the industrial belt and urged the concerned authorities to disconnect natural gas supply to domestic consumers by next two years as the demand in industrial sector is mandatory.
The speakers also demanded implementation of Bay terminal in Patenga and LNG terminal for storing the imported LNG. The connectivity between the capital and port city should be more fasting and comfortable as the foreign RMG buyers can avail easiest communication by air or surface quickly,.
