Eco-friendly sanitation, safe water facilities for sound health stressed

Speakers at a project inception meeting here on Thursday stressed the need for environment friendly sanitation and safe drinking water to ensure sound health.
For this reason, natural supply of safe water must be ensured, they said, adding that there is no alternative to providing safe water.
They also pointed out that people of coastal and salinity area would get relief from various diseases if they drink safe water regularly.
The project on “Transforming Rural Livelihood through Wash in Climate Vulnerable areas in South-West Bangladesh was organized by Rupantor, a non- government organisation.
Funded by Water Aid involving Tk 7.12 crore, the two- year long project began on April 1, 2015 and would be complete on March 30, 2017 in nine unions under Dakop Upazila in Khulna.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Abdus Samad addressed the meeting as the chief guest while Hassan Ishrat Aziz, head of program, Water Aid, was in the chair.

Superintendent Engineer of Directorate of Public Health Engineering S M Wahidul Islam addressed as special guests while executive director of Rupantor Rafiqul Islam Khokon delivered the speech of welcome and did power point presentation.
Over 164 representatives from different unions from Dakop Upazila , civil society leaders, journalists attended and addressed the meeting.
The speakers also underscored the use of sanitary toilet by all members of a family and urged all to abandon the habit of making open toilet.
The chief guest stressed the need for preserving rain water, digging ponds and tree plantation for eco-friendly environment and safe drinking water.
He said the administration/government is always ready for serving the people but they should take initiative for solving their problems.
He said Women Development Fund has been created at 59 upazilas in Khulna Division for women’s safety net.
