An outlay of Tk 1,354cr: Ecnec approves five development projects

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) Tuesday approved five development projects with an outlay of Taka 1,354 crore.
The approval came from the ECNEC meeting held at the NEC conference room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar with ECNEC chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal, after the meeting, told reporters, “Of the total project cost, the government will provide Taka 1,325 crore from the national exchequer while Taka 29.13 crore as project assistance.”
State Minister for Finance and Planning M A Mannan was present at the briefing.
Besides, the Planning Minister also announced the ADP implementation rate during the July-December period of the current fiscal that stood at 28 per cent compared to 25 per cent during July-December period of the last fiscal (2013-14).
He said during the period, some Taka 23,745 crore were spent against Taka 18,825 crore during the July-December period of the last fiscal year.
Kamal also hoped to achieve cent per cent implementation rate in the current fiscal year.
About the point-to-point inflation rate for the month of December, he said the general point to point inflation rate lowered slightly in this December to 6.11 per cent point compared to 6.21 per cent point in November.
About the projects, Kamal said PC girder bridges, RCC bridges and RCC box culverts will be constructed to ensure safe and uninterrupted communication system in the hilly district of Khagrachhari.
Planning Minister said: “some 34 PC girder bridges, 9 RCC bridges and 10 RCC Box Culverts would be constructed in the district replacing the old and dilapidated ones.”
Roads and Highways Department will implement the Taka 190.28 crore project to be entirely borne from the government exchequer by December 2017.
The ECNEC meeting approved another project titled “Improvement Component for Vulnerable Group Development Programme” with Taka 38.89 crore to be implemented by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs by June 2018.
Under the project, the government will help the ultra poor women of Chouhali and Belkuchi upazilas to help come out of their families from poverty. Some 21,000 distressed women of these two upazilas would be provided Taka 15,000 each to find ways for maintaining their livelihood.
The day’s ECNEC meeting gave nod to another project titled “Further Development of Islamic University (2nd phase)” involving Taka 70.58 crore to be jointly implemented by University Grants Commission (UGC) and Islamic University by June 2019.
Under the project, there will be a five-storey male hostel, a five-storey female hostel and a 10-storey quarter for the teachers and officials.
The other projects approved in the meeting are construction of bypass road in Kushtia Town, 1st revised, Taka 78.30 crore and development of government post-graduate colleges in district headquarters for improving quality of education, 1st revised, Taka 976.57 crore.
Ministers and State Ministers attended the meeting while concerned Secretaries were present.
