EC to observe National Voters’ Day on March 1

Election Commission (EC) will observe the National Voters’ Day for the first time to raise awareness among the people about their voting rights and usefulness of the National Identity card. It will be done on March 1.
EC officials said that the decisions had been taken to use Indian experience in observing the voters’ day. As part of this, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda and Joint Secretary of Elections Directorate Division’s Farhad Ahmad Khan are visiting India.
It is known that the CEC’s India tour started from January 23 and he will return to Bangladesh January 28
Officials said, India will observe National Voters’ Day on January 25. The country’s Election Commission took various initiatives to observe the day. India observes 25 January every year since 2011 to encourage youth participation in government jobs and electoral process. In the year 2018, they observed the day in seven lakh locations through various programs. This year also Indian EC completed a lot of preparations.
The CEC is taking part in the programs in observing the voter day of India. An analysis of the technical aspects of that experience will also be utilized in Bangladesh.
The Election Commission has constituted five committees in the center, division, district and upazila level to make the day successful.
The 28-member Central Committee will be appointed where EC Secretary will chair as President and a Deputy Secretary will hold Member-Secretary post.
A 27-member committee will be working at the divisional level where Divisional Commissioner will work as President.
The 24-member committee chaired by the Regional Election Officer will work at the regional level.
The 30-member committee chaired by the Deputy Commissioner will work in the district level.
The upazila level committee will be of 25 members.
Apart from the central committee, four committees will be organized and implemented in the celebration of the program. In this regard, discussion will be arranged in colleges, universities, banners, festoons and leaflets to ensure the presence of all the officials of the upazila level, to create mass awareness, to organize mass awareness, to incorporate religious organisation including mosque, temples and to involve local people representatives.
The central committee will coordinate with all the departments under the directive of the Election Commission to formulate an action plan and overall supervision.
EC officials said that when India first observed the day in the year 2011, voters gave a huge response to the voters’ day. About 52 lakh young voters are on the list. The 18 million new voters.
In Bangladesh there have lot of complexity regarding voter list and National ID card issue. The voter’s day observation will mitigate these problems, hopes the EC officials.
