UNB, Dhaka :
BNP chairperson’s adviser Khandaker Mahbub Hossain on Wednesday afternoon said the Election Commission seemed helpless to curb violence and anomalies in the municipal election.
“It seems to us that the Election Commission is helpless as they could not control the local administration,” he told reporters at the Election Commission Secretariat around 4:30 pm.
Earlier, a four-member BNP delegation, led by Mahbub, lodged different complaints to the EC immediately after the balloting ended at 4pm in 233 municipalities across the country.
Replying to a question, he said no BNP mayoral candidate boycotted the municipal election anywhere in the country. “We are yet to receive any report of boycotting the election by BNP candidates. But many candidates are on the run as they were forced to be so,” he said.
Mahbub said, they don’t want to boycott the election and they want to be involved in the democratic process till the final moment. About overall situation of the election he said, “We are frustrated with the balloting. There has been no reflection of what we expected about the election.”
