The Election Commission (EC) has taken a decision in principle to postpone the first phase of local body polls which is scheduled to be held on April 11, as the deadly coronavirus transmission is getting high.
On Monday at an emergency meeting, the EC took the decision at its Agargoan office, saying the final decision would be taken in the commission’s full-fledged meeting on April 1.
EC source said, the government meanwhile had issued 18 directives to curb Covid-19. After that, Commission summoned an emergency meeting where the high officials were present.
In view of the above EC took the decision that on April 11 the local body polls would not be held.
Source also said, final decision will be taken in next full meeting of the commission on April first.
On April 11, 371 Union Parished (UP) election was scheduled to be held but it had been postponed. On the same day 11 municipalities and Laxmipur-2 by-election were also scheduled.
