UNB, Dhaka :
Returning officer of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mihir Sarwar Morshed on Saturday sent a letter to BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia requesting her to abide by the election code of conduct. An official of the returning officer’s office confirmed the matter.
The letter said carrying out election campaign blockading roads is a violation of the code of conduct for the city corporation elections.
Earlier, the Election Commission (EC) on Friday sent letters to the returning officers, DMP commissioner and magistrates engaged in election duty giving directives to take actions if Khaleda Zia’s motorcade obstructs the free use of roads by citizens while she campaigns for the elections.
Khaleda has been conducting campaign in favour of the party-backed mayoral candidates for the Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation since April 18.
During campaign for DNCC mayoral runner Tabith Awal and DSCC mayoral runner Mirza Abbas, Khaleda Zia came under attacks in Kawran Bazar, Fakirapul and Banglamotor areas of the city on three separate days.
