Gemcon Khulna registered an easy 48-run win over Fortune Barishal in their fifth match of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup Cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Friday.
Sent into bat first, Gemcon Khulna piled up a mammoth total of 173 for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and then bowled out Fortune Barishal for 125 off 19.5 overs.
Khulna had an unhappy start as they lost their opener Jahurul Islam for just two runs when Khulna’s score was 19.
Then opener Zakir Hasan and one-down Imrul Kayes contributed together 90 runs for the second wicket partnership before Kayes was caught by Tamim Iqbal off Kamrul Islam Rabbi when Khulna’s total was 109 for the loss of two wickets.
Zakir Hasan hit a marvelous 63. His 42-ball innings was studded with 10 fours. He was adjudged the Man of the Match for his sparkle batting performance.
Imrul Kayes made 37 from 34 balls featuring two fours and a sixer.
After Imrul’s dismissal, Zakir Hasan could stay at the crease for a short period as he was caught by Towhid Hridoy off Taskin Ahmed when Khulna’s score was 117 for the loss of three wickets.
After Zakir’s departure, Mahmudullah Riyad and Shamim Hossain added together 32 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Shamim Hossain (6) was caught by Mehidy Hasan Miraz off Kamrul Islam Rabbi when Khulna’s total was 162 for the loss of five wickets.
Mahmudullah Riyad hit a quick-fire 24. He struck four fours in his 14-ball innings.
Kamrul Islam Rabbi of Fortune Barishal grabbed three wickets at the cost of 33 runs, while Taskin Ahmed got two wickets conceding 44 runs.
Tanvir Islam took one wicket for 16 runs.
Barishal had a good start as openers Tamim Iqbal and Parvez Hasan put on together 57 runs in the opening stand before Parvez Hasan (19) was cleanly bowled out by Shuvagata Hom.
Later, Towhid Hridoy and Irfan Sukkur added together 31 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Irfan Sukkur (16) was bowled out by Shakib Al Hasan when Barishal’s total was 91 for the loss of four wickets.
Then Hridoy and Mahidul Islam added together 30 runs in the five-wicket stand before Mahidul Islam (10) was caught by Shamim Hossain off Al-Amin Hossain when Barishal’s score was 121 for the loss of five wickets.
After Mahidul’s dismissal, Barishal failed to make any notable partnership.
Hridoy hit a respectable 33. His 27-ball knock saw two fours and a sixer.
Tamim Iqbal played a captain’s knock of 32. His 21-ball innings was studded with four fours and a sixer.
Shahidul Islam, Hasan Mahmud, Shuvagata Hom of Gemcon Khulna bagged two wickets each for 17, 18 and 18 runs respectively.
