Comilla Victorians recorded an easy seven-wicket win (according to Duckworth/ Lewis Method) over Chittagong Vikings in the 35th match of the UCB 6th Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 cricket at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Tuesday.
Chasing Chittagong’s paltry total of 116 for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 19 overs (One over was curtailed due to rain), Comilla Victorians coasted home making 117 for the loss of three wickets when they had 14 balls to spare.
Comilla Victorians had a modest start as opener Anamul Haque (8) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mohammad Shahzad off Khaled Ahmed when Comilla’s score was 26.
Opener Tamim Iqbal and Shamsur Rahman salvaged their team contributing together 65 runs in the second wicket stand before Shamsur Rahman was caught at the long-on by Sikandar Reza off Abu Jayed when Comilla’s total was 91 for the loss of two wickets.
Then Imrul Kayes came at the crease but he (8) was caught behind by wicketkeeper of Mohammad Shahzad off Abu Jayed when Comilla’s score was 107 for the loss of three wickets.
Later, Tamim Iqbal and Thisara Perera guided their team to reach the winning spot.
Tamim Iqbal remained unbeaten with 54. His 51-ball marvelous innings was ornamented with four fours and two sixers.
Shamsur Rahman hit a worthy 36. His 22-ball innings was decorated with three fours and two sixes.
Perera remained unbeaten with 10 runs.
Abu Jayed of Chittagong Vikings bagged a couple of wickets at the cost of 25 runs, while Khaled Ahmed got one wicket conceding 25 runs.
Earlier, Chittagong Vikings failed to build any notable partnership.
Mosaddek Hossain and Mohammad Shahzad fought back against the tight and controlled bowling attack of Comilla Victorians.
Mosaddek Hossain remained unbeaten with 43. His 25-ball superb innings was studded with three sixes and three fours.
Opener Mohammad Shahzad notched up a polished 33. His 35-ball innings saw two fours and one sixer before he was run out by a joint-effort of Abu Hider and wicketkeeper Anamul Haque.
Shahid Afridi, Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Saifuddin of Comilla Victorians bagged a pair of wickets each at the cost of 10, 23 and 23 runs respectively.
Mahedi Hasan took one wicket for 17 runs respectively.
Shahid Afridi was adjudged the Man of the Match.
