Rangpur Riders recorded an easy nine-wicket victory over Comilla Victorians in their match of the AKS Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Twenty20 Cricket at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Friday.
Chasing Comilla’s total of 122 for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 20 overs, Rangpur Riders romped home making 126 for the loss of one wicket when they had 18 balls to spare.
Rangpur Riders had a modest start as they lost opener Soumya Sarkar(22) when Rangpur’s total was 29.
Later, Mohammad Shahzad and Mohammad Mithun played the key role to reach the winning spot adding together 97 runs for the unbroken second wicket stand.
Mohammad Shahzad remained unbeaten with 51. His 49-ball innings was decorated with three sixes and two fours. Shahzad was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Mohammad Mithun remained unbeaten with 45. His 39-ball innings was laced with three sixes and a four.
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza of Comilla Victorians took one wicket for 20 runs.
Earlier, Ahmed Shehzad and Marlon Samuels of Comilla Victorians fought back making 52 each against the controlled bowling attack of Rangpur Riders.
Shehzad hit four fours and a sixer in his 45-ball innings, while Marlon Samuels struck two sixes and three fours.
Rubel Hossain of Rangpur Riders bagged a couple of wickets instead of 27 runs, while Sohag Gazi and Anwar Ali took one wicket each for seven and 28 runs respectively.
