E-9 Ministerial meet on Edn in Feb

Bangladesh is going to hold E-9, a forum of nine countries, which was formed to achieve goals of UNESCO’s Education For All (EFA) initiative, Ministerial Meeting on Education between February 5 and 7 next year for the first time in the country.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is likely to inaugurate the conference at Hotel Radisson on February 5.
The E-9 Initiative was taken up in 1993, with the aim of strengthening
national efforts to ensure access to quality basic education in nine most populous developing countries, where the scale of the challenge was the greatest.
Bangladesh will host the conference to be attended by Brazil, India, Pakistan, China, Egypt, Indonesia, Mexico and Nigeria.
The Education Ministry has taken lots of initiatives to run the activities of the conference smoothly.
It has already formed an advisory committee and a number of sub-committees to make the conference success.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid will be the President of the committee while Foreign Minister, Home Minister, Finance Minister and Cultural Minister will be the vice-presidents with the secretaries of all the aforementioned ministries will work as members of the committee.
An advisory meeting was held on Thursday in the Education Ministry’s Conference Room with Education Minister in the chair. Top officials of the concerned ministries took part in the meeting.
The meeting sources said that it had decided that foolproof security during the conference will be taken to be supervised by the Home Ministry. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid hoped that the ministers of all the member countries would take part in the conference.
It may be mentioned that the first conference of the E-9 was held in Indonesia in 1995, 2nd in Pakistan in 1997, 3rd in Brazil in 2000, 4th in China in 2001, 5th in Egypt in 2003, 6th in Mexico in 2006, 7th in Indonesia in 2008, 8th in Nigeria in 2010, 9th in India in 2012 and 10th in Pakistan in 2014.
