FR Tower fire: Dy Secretary Abdullah al Baki suspended

Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha’s (RAJUK) former Director (Estate) and Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Abdullah Al Baki has been suspended.
Ministry of Public Administration issued an order in this connection on Tuesday.
It is said that a charge sheet was filed against Abdullah-al-Baki in the Dhaka Metropolitan Special Judge’s Court on December 13, 2020 filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission, Integrated District Office, Dhaka-1.
As the court accepted the charge sheet on
January 25 this year, Abdullah-al-Baki was shown suspended from that date in accordance with Section 39 (2) of the Public Service Act, 2018, the circular said.
It further said that while on temporary suspension, he would be entitled to alimony as per the rules.
On March 28, 2019, a fire broke out in the FR tower of Banani. The blaze killed at least 26 people and injured 70 others. Immediately after this, information of irregularities and corruption in the construction of the building came up.
Later, on May 22 of that year, the government blamed the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, officials and employees of the RAJUK and found at least 67 people involved with the construction work for approving the design and construction of the FR Tower in Banani.
Housing and Public Works Minister S M Rezaul Karim released the report at a press conference. Abdullah-al-Baqi was on that list.
