BSS, Dhaka :
Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan asked the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (DWASA) to monitor canal-cleaning drive regularly.
“Regular cleaning of the canals, including the canals already recovered from illegal grabbers, would keep the water bodies neat and clean,” he said on Thursday while visiting the Kalyanpur main canal adjacent to Kalyanpur Bridge here.
DWASA Managing Director Taqsem A Khan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) of Dhaka Abul Fazal Mir and local councilor M Forkan Ahmed accompanied the minister.
Shajahan Khan, also the president of Taskforce formed to keep navigability of rivers and prevent pollution, said that the government took initiatives to recover canals from the illegal occupants and keep those clean.
The minister said lack of regular monitoring of canal cleaning drives and awareness is leading to filling up of the water bodies with garbage. He stressed on creating awareness and increasing vigilance to keep the canals neat and clean.
