Durga Puja to be celebrated at 509 mandaps

Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bangalee Hindu community, will be celebrated at 509 mandaps in seven upazilas of the district this year.
 The five-day long festival will begin on October 1 with due respect and religious fervor across the country and end on October 5 with immersion of the idols of goddess Durga and other deities.
 District Puja Udjapon Committee’s president Sukhranjan Master said 66 mandaps will be erected in Sadar upazila, 24 in Indurkani upazila, 132 in Nazirpur upazila, 122 in Swarupkathi upazila, 92 in Mathbaria upazila, 49 in Bhandaria upazila and 24 in Kaukhali upazila of the district.
The artisans are now passing busy time, making the clay images of Goddess Durga, he said.
 Superintendent of Police Mohammad Saidur Rahman (PPM Service) said stringent security measures have been taken for smooth holding of the puja all over the district and law enforcement agencies will be in place to ensure smooth celebration.
 The monitoring team will work at the district and upazila level, president of District Puja Udjapon Parishad Sukhranjan added.
