Preparations for celebration of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, are progressing fast throughout the Sylhet Division.
 The festival will begin on October 19 and conclude on Octber 22 through the immersion of idols in rivers. about 2404 puja mandaps have been set up for the big celebration in the Sylhet Division. Sculptors are passing very busy time in 39 upazilas to give the final touches on Goddess Durga and other idols.
Joint Secretary of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Porished, Advocate Mirtun joy Dor Bula said people of all religion will enjoy the occasion in harmony. He also said this year Durga Puja is going to be celebrated at 2404 puja mandaps in the Sylhet Division.He, however, said the number of puja mandaps has fallen 29 this year.
Artist Kumar Gonesh said: “Now, we are busy painting the idols.” He said this year prices of all kinds of idol making materials have increased affecting the celebration.
President of Sylhet sadar upazila Puja Udjapan Committee said last year, every puja temple received 500 kilogram rice as government donation on such occasion.
DIG of Sylhet Range Mizanur Rahman said extra security measures will be taken for the protection of puja mandaps and the viewers.
Police said special security measures will be taken in and around all the puja mandaps of the district to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for the smooth holding of the festival. This year, 2404 Puja mandops would be set up in the Sylhet Division. District wise Durga Puja would also be celebrated at 583 mandops in Sylhet 905 in Moulobibazar, 316 in Sunamgonj , 600 in Hobigonj District.
BSS from Noakhali says: Durga Puja, one of the biggest festivals of the Hindu Community, will be celebrated through 152 mandaps in the district. The 4-day long festival of the largest minority community begins this year from October 19 with due respect and religious fervor and concludes on October 22 through immersion of the idols at different water bodies.
Artists are passing busy time giving final touch to idols and decorating the puja mandaps in the district.
President of the District Puja Udjapan Parishad Ratan Lal Saha said 152 puja mandaps would be erected in nine upazilas of the district this year.
Of the total, 19 puja mandaps would be erected in Sadar upazila, 15 in Begumganj, 11 in Sonaimuri, 9 in Chatkhil, 12 in Senbag, 12 in Companiganj, 16 in Kabirhat, 28 in Subarnachar and 30 in Hatiya upazila.
BSS from Rajshahi reports: Artists and idol-makers commonly known as pals are passing their busy times in giving final touch to the idol of the goddess Durga here as the largest festival of the Bengali Hindu community is knocking at the door.
With barely over three days left for the largest religious festival of the Hindu community, the Pals are working round the clock to make sure that the idols are ready in time.
Tapan Kumar Sen, trustee of Hindu Religion Welfare Trust, told BSS that the Durga puja will be celebrated in more than 3,208 Puja mandaps in Rajshahi division from October 18 to 22. Respective district administration sources said that special security measures will be taken and traffic management would be ensured during the Puja festival.
Around 500 idol-makers are engaged in making idols for Durga Puja in the region.
The Pals hope for earning better profits this year as the number of puja mandaps [pandal] have increased in the region. They will get good return as the price of each idol has increased from Taka 4,000 to Taka 6,000.
The number of orders for making idols is increasing gradually. Yet, it would be difficult for many to run families with what they would earn from their works.
BSS from Manikganj adds: The preparation for holding the Durga Puja, a biggest religious festival of the Hindu Community of the country going on in full swing all over the district.
The four-day long festival of the Hindu community will begin from October 19 with due respect and religious fervor and will be concluded on October 22 through the immersion of idols at different water bodies.
District Puja Celebration Committee President Advocate Oshim Biswas said a total of 454 Puja mondaps are being erected in the seven upazilas and two pourasabhas in the district this year which is 18 more than previous year.
Of the total, some 88 including Manikganj Pourasabha puja mandaps are being erected in Manikganj Sadar Upazila, 64 in Ghior Upazila, 65 in Saturia Upazila, 37 in Daulatpur Upazila, 60 in Harirampur Upazila, 63 in Singair Upazila and 80 in Shibalaya upazila.
