9 more killed in lightnings

At least nine were killed and four others injured after thunderbolts struck them in Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Sherpur, and Sunamganj districts on Monday (May 7).
Besides, 10 buffalos were killed in Kazipur upazila. In Sherpur, four persons, including a school girl, were killed from 9:45 am to 11 am. The deceased were identified as follow: Sharmin, a tenth grader, daughter of Sohel Miah, of Pagharia Mirjabazar village under Nalitabari upazila, a farmer Abdur Rahim, son of Aku sheikh, of Halgora village under Sherpur Sadar upazila, another farmer Shahidul Islam, son of Wahed Ali, from Mojarchor village under Nakla upazila. In Moulvibazar, two persons were killed and three others injured in separate incidents from morning to noon.
One Mafiz Miah, 30, son of Islam Miah, hailed from Baruna village under Kalapur union of the upazila, was struck by a thunderbolt while on boat in Hail haor of Sreemangal upazila. He died on the boat, according to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital. On the other hand, Samad, 15, son of Fayez Uddin, was killed on the spot after lightening struck him while working in a paddy field, located nearby his home in Khalilpur under sadar upazila. In Habiganj, two workers  
were killed in lightening strikes while cutting paddy in Brinda Chitta haor of Daulatpur union under Baniachong upazila. The deceased, Adhir Baishab, 27, son of Nadu Baishab, from Kabirpur village, and Basu Baishab, 32, son of Bireshhar Baishab, of Telghari village, are from the same upazila. Mamun Khandaker, Baniachong Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) said that the bereaved families will be given Tk 20,000 in cash. Banglanews district correspondents report till noon.
