Durga Puja ends amid tight securities

Durga Puja, the biggest and sacred festival of the Bangalee Hindus ended on Friday in the city as elsewhere in the district with the incarnation (Bodhon) of the Goddess Durga on Panchomi and formal celebration of Maha Dashami at all temples.
The five-day festival starts on Monday last while the immersion celebration an end with the immersion of the idols of the Goddess Durga in rivers and water bodies on October 19.
Security has been beefed up in all Puja pandals throughout the city and district with deployment of additional squads of police, Ansars and RAB for peaceful celebration of the festival.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has taken up five tires security arrangement to ensure smooth holding of upcoming five day long holy Durga Puja.
The security measures, aimed at celebrating the festival without fear and traditional enthusiasm will start a day before the Puja and will remain in force until immersion of the idols. CMP authority has taken up tough measures with close surveillance on 121 puja pandels considered to be very important and risky in the port city.
CMP Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman, told that total of 255 Puja Mondops set up in Chattogram city by the Hindu Community this year, President of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parisad Chattogram Advocate Chandhon Dhar said.
The CMP authority deploy ed12 members of law enforcing agency in and around very important Puja Mondops, eight members at important and four members police and Ansers at general puja mondops CMP commissioner said.
The CMP authority also set up a control room to smoothly handle the situation of Durga Puja, Rahman added. Besides, the intelligence agencies were directed to intensify their round the clock vigilance in and around the city, he added.
To make foolproof security huge check posts had already been set up at different strategic points across the city, which was monitored by the law enforcers round the clock. All the entry points of the city like Shah Amanat Bridge, City Gate and Oxygen area was brought under tight security measures with CCTV monitoring.
