Durga Puja ends amid festivity in dists

The five-day celebrations of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bangali Hindu community, ended in the city and nine upazilas of the district yesterday through immersion of the Goddesses Durga amid festivity and much enthusiasm.

authorities brought out Shuvo Bijoya Dashami processions in the afternoon carrying idols of Devi Durga, other gods and goddesses on trucks and pick-up vans for immersions those into the rivers.
State Minister for Fisheries and Live stock Naryan Chandra Chanda addressed a number of gatherings at different puja mandaps of Dumuria upazila in Khulna district last night on the occassion as the chief guest.
Earlier, hundreds of devotees thronged puja mandaps on the Bijoya Dashami to have last glance at the Goddess Durga and seek her blessings for the nation and mankind.
A record number of 944 puja mandaps were erected in the city and district and the government distributed around 472 tonnes of rice among mandaps authorities to assist the Hindu community people in celebrating the festival.
The law enforcers, who were on duty round the clock over the last five days, were seen guarding yesterday’s Shuvo Bijoya Dashami processions arranged for immersion of Devi Durga and other idols since the afternoon.
Talking to BSS, President and general secretary of city unit Puja udjapon parisad Shyamol Halder and Proshanto Kundu thanked and hailed the concerned local authorities for ensuring foolproof security and uninterrupted power supply during the five-day celebrations of Durga Puja.
They expressed deep gratitude to the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for assisting them in celebrating Durga Puja with due religious fervour, enthusiasm and festivity.

The Hindu community celebrated their greatest festivity of Durga Puja amid huge enthusiasm and festivities through performing religious rituals at record number of 5,107 Puja mandaps in the division amid tight security measures.
Thousand of the female devotees today thronged the Puja mandaps to have last look at goddess Durga and seek her blessings for the nation, people and humanity by putting ‘sindur’ (vermilion) on face of the Mother and exchanging the same among themselves.
In Rangpur city, the district unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad (BPUP) brought out the ‘Shuvo Bijoya Dashami’ procession from ‘Shurovi Uddyan’ premises this afternoon carrying idols of Devi Durga, other gods and goddesses on trucks for immersions into water bodies.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman, Police Super Mizanur Rahman, Hindu community leaders addressed a ceremony held there before launching the procession.
High government officials, leaders of Awami League, its associate bodies and district unit of BPUP along with thousands of the Hindu devotees of all ages took part in the procession.
The law enforcers were seen guarding the today’s ‘Shuvo Bijoya Dashami’ procession in the city for immersion of Devi Durga and other idols since the afternoon.
President of Rangpur district unit of BPUP Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick thanked the present government and the local administrations for ensuring complete security during celebration of Durga Puja festivity.
Earlier, the religious festival began on last Tuesday through ‘Bodhan’ (enlightenment) and the Hindu community completed the five-day celebrations through immersions of the idols on the ‘Bijoya Dashami’ today in all eight districts of the division.
BSS from Gaibandha adds: The five-day long Sharadiya Durga Puja, the greatest religious festival of Hindu community, ended in all seven upazilas in the district on Saturday peacefully through immersion of Devi Durga and other idols in different water bodies.

Thousands of devotees joined the colorful processions with music and dance as the idols were being carried on the trucks or shoulders to the nearby rivers, ponds, canals, and other water bodies for immersion.
A total of 579 puja mandaps were set up in all the seven upazilas of the district this year and a large number of law enforcers were deployed in and around the puja mandaps to maintain the law and order situation, said deputy commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal.
The government also distributed a total of 289.50 tonnes of rice to the puja mandaps of the district to help the Hindu community celebrate the festival properly, he said.
Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Advocate Fazley Rabbi Miah, Whip Mahabub Ara Begum Gini, Zila Parishad Chairman Ataur Rahman Sarker Ata, DC Gautam Chandra Pal, and SP Mashrukur Rahman Khaled visited the puja mandaps and exchanged greetings with to the devotees.
Ranajit Bakshi Surja, president of Bangladesh Puja Celebration Parishad, district unit, and general secretary Principal Paresh Chandra Saha thanked the government for taking necessary measures for holding the Durga Puja in a peaceful manner.
