Durga Puja, the greatest religious festival of the Hindu community, ended on Tuesday with the immersion of Goddess Drrga in Monirampur Upazila.
Devotees of their tearful eyes bade farewell to the mother deity and her children through immersion in the water, whishing Durga their beloved mother return next year.
The Puja began on Friday with Mohashastami was held on Sunday and Mohanobomi on next day.
In Monirampur, a 81 Puja Mondop were erected across the Upazila. The main Puja Mondop was set-up at Dholkhula in Monirampur municipal Sadar. Besides, another big Mondop was set-up at Mhosihati bazar, where thousands of devotees and people of all walks of life were observed puja everyday.
According to the Puja Udjapan committee president, this year they are enjoy their Puja with peacefully. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kamrul Hassan and OC Biplop Kumar Nath demanded separately no untoward incident occurred during the Puja days.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: The five-day Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, ended here yesterday with immersion of the goddess Durga in the river Padma.
The last day rituals of the festival were celebrated amid much enthusiasm and festivity. ‘Prasad’ and sweets were distributed among the devotees and the people belonging to other communities, who visited the Puja Mandops.
Marking the Bijoya Dashami women devotees applied ‘Sindur’ on the face of goddess Durga and exchanged among themselves amid joyous and festive mood.
Before removing the idols of Durga and other gods and goddesses from the altar of all mandops or makeshift pavilions for immersion, the Hindu devotees danced and sang ‘kirton’. Thousands of devotees joined the colorful marches as the idols were being carried to the nearby rivers particularly the river Padma, ponds, canals and other water bodies for immersion.
