The four-day long Durga Puja festival begins from today and will be ended on October 11 when the Hindu community will celebrate Nobomi and Bijoya Dashami through the immersion of idols of Goddess Durga with festivity and religious fervor.
On this great festival of the Hindu community, national and local newspapers will publish special features and Betar, BTV will also air religious programs of the community.
Meanwhile Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) has taken fool-proof security measures to ensure smooth holding of forthcoming Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community, and the holy Ashura of the Shia Muslims. CMP Commissioner Iqbal Bahar was addressing a press conference at his conference room here on Thursday .
A total of 251 Puja Mandops will be set up by the Hindhu Community this year in the port city and the authority has earmarked over 105 Puja Mondops as very important in the port city while the rest has been termed as important and general Puja Mandops, CMP Commissioner said.
The CMP authority will deployed 12 law-enforcers in each very important, eight law-enforcers in each important and four members of police and Ansars in general puja mondops, he added.
The CMP authority will also set up a control room to monitor the situation during Durga Puja, Iqbal Bahar said.
Besides, the intelligence agencies have been asked to gear up their vigilance in and around the city. They have been asked to gather secret information about the suspected trouble-makers or offenders so that police could take all sorts of preventive measures to avert any incident during the festivals.
The Commissioner said the overall law and order in the port city showed a marked improvement during the past eight months as the rate of different criminal acts came down during the period.
Besides, CMP has banned Tajia processions of the Shia Muslims after 5.30 pm on October 12 to ensure security during the Ashura. He said a total of nine Tajia processions will be brought out in the city on the day of Ashura.
Security will be provided in those places in the city where the Shia community will gather to celebrate the day.For the sake of security, the CMP commissioner asked the Shia devouts not to carry lethal weapons like knife and sword during Tajia procession.
Talking to the media Reazaul Masud, additional superintendent of police said district police has also taken fool-proof security measures to ensure smooth holding of Durga Puja in 1439 puja mandops in different parts of the district. RAB will also deploy over 250 personnel in port city and different upazila of the district to maintain law and order, RAB sources said.
Chittagong district police will also keep vigil over 2650 police personnel at important places, including upazila headquarters under its jurisdictions, on this occasion, district police officials said.
