DU VC underscores research on microbiology

Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman, Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University (DU) urged researchers to take collaborative research initiatives with industrial institutions on microbiology. He came up with the call while addressing a daylong conference on microbiology on the DU campus on Saturday.
The Department of Microbiology of the university with support from Bangladesh Society of Microbiologist (BSM) organised the conference at its auditorium.
Akhtaruzzaman formally inaugurated the conference as the chief guest. The theme of the conference was ‘Challenges and Innovations in Controlling Microbiological Hazards’.
Underscoring the need for carrying out more researches on microbiology, the DU VC said industrial institutions should strengthen relations with the country’s universities aiming to launch joint research programmes on microbiology.
At the onset of his speech, he paid rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, four slain national leaders and the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War.
Over 250 researchers and teachers took part in the conference and shared their experience and research findings on microbiology.
Chaired by convener of the conference Prof Dr Md Mozammel Huq, the meeting was addressed, among others, by acting dean of the Biological Science Faculty Prof Mihir Lal Saha and Dr Mohammad Aminul Islam, an associate scientist of icddr,b.
