DU to observe Mourning Day on Oct 15

Dhaka University authority has chalked out an elaborate programme in observance of the Mourning Day on October 15 in a befitting manner.
The day is being observed as the Mourning Day since 1985 in memory of those resident and non-resident students, employees and guests killed in a building collapse (former Assembly House) at Jagannath Hall of the university.
The programmes of the day include hoisting of black flags at all the dormitories and the principal buildings of the university, lowering of the university flag at half-mast and wearing of black badges at 6 am, bringing out a mourning procession from the foot of ‘Aparajeyo Bangla’ sculpture towards Jagannath Hall Memorial, placing of wreaths and observance of silence there at 7-30 am as a mark of respect to those killed in the building collapse.
Besides, a discussion will be held at the Television Room of the October Memorial Building at 8 am that will be followed by prayer sessions of Hindus,
Buddhists and Christians. Munajat will be offered at all the dormitory
mosques and the university central mosque after Asr prayers seeking eternal
peace of the departed souls.
An oil painting show of those victims of the tragedy and their used items
will be held while a blood donation camp will also be organised on the
premises of Jagannath Hall from 11 am to 6 pm.
As part of the Mourning Day’s programme, a devotional song and poetry
recitation session will be held at Jagannath Hall Prayer Hall at 6-30 pm.
The Mourning Day’s programmes were finalised at a meeting held at the
seminar room of Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on Tuesday with Dhaka
University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique in the chair.
