Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique on Thursday said his university will open a new department named ‘Department of Japanology’ in recognition to the ongoing collaborative academic activities with Japanese universities.
“We have already decided to open a new teaching department titled ‘Department of Japanology’,” he said speaking as chief guest at the 30th Mukarram Hussain Khundker Memorial Lecture.
DU Chemistry Department organized the programme at the MHK Biggyan Bhaban on the campus with its Chairman Professor Dr Nilufar Nahar in the chair. Science Faculty Dean Professor Dr Md Abdul Aziz addressed it as the special guest.
Professor of Toyohashi University of Technology in Japan Dr Shinichi Itsunu delivered the Memorial Lecture titled “Synthesis of chiral polymers and their applications to asymmetric catalysis” in the programme.
Paying glowing tributes to the memory of late Professor Mukarram Hussain Khundker, Professor Arefin said he was a presiding genius in the field of chemistry and chemical education in Bangladesh.
The DU Vice-Chancellor thanked the Japanese professor for delivering the memorial lecture and said DU has got many collaborative academic and research projects with various Japanese universities.
