A student of Dhaka University (DU) drowned in a pond of Sergeant Jahurul Haq Hall on Monday morning.
Jhony Nur, 19, was a first year student of Applied Chemistry department.
He, along with two of his friends went to the pond to swim 10:30am and Jhony drowned in the pond, Enayet Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Fire Service and Civil Defence, said.
On information, the fire fighters rushed to the spot and rescued Jhony, the OC said. Jhony was declared dead when he was taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Sub-Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of the hospital’s police outpost. It is mentioning that many students and outsiders drowned every year into the pond of Shahidullah Hall, but for the first time a student drowned into the pond of Jahurul Haq Hall.
