An evening masters’ student of Dhaka University (DU) Walid Ashraf continued his hunger strike on Wednesday the 11th consecutive day, demanding the Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) polls by December 16.
Walid Ashraf, an evening master’s degree student of the Institute of
Social Welfare and Research of DU, began the hunger strike on November 25 on the premises of Memory Eternal.
After Walid started the single protest programme demanding the DUCSU polls, a number of university professors and left student organization’s leaders and activists have expressed their support.
Walid Ashraf said that he would continue the strike until the authorities concerned paid heed to his demand.
“The Vice Chancellor (VC) must give the date of the DUCSU election before December 16, otherwise, I’ll not break hunger strike until death,” he added.
DU VC Professor Akhtaruzzaman said, everyone has right to express his opinion. We will never interfere in anyone’s democratic rights until his opinion or step creates any security problem for the university.
“The university administration is trying to take all necessary steps to hold the DUCSU poll,” he added.
