Dr Sheikh Shamimul Alam, professor of the Department of Botany of Dhaka University (DU) has been awarded “Wada Memorial Award” of Japan for his global standard research articles on plants chromosome. President of the Japan Mendel Society and professor of the Tokyo University Toshiyuki Nagata handed over this award to Prof Alam at a function held on Thursday at the Vice-chancellor’s office of DU. The Japan Mendel Society organized the function.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Prof Dr M Imdadul Haque and Chief Editor of Cytologia Journal and Professor of the Tokyo University Shigeyuki Kawano were present on this occasion.
It may be mentioned that, the Japanese Wada Award Committee was highly impressed with Prof Dr Alam’s research articles that published in the Cytologia Journal. Therefore, they decided to give Wada Memorial Award to Prof Alam. The President of the Japan Mendel Society and Chief Editor of the journal are now on a visit to Bangladesh for handing over this award.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique thanked the Japanese Wada Award Committee for recognition the efforts of Prof Dr Sheikh Shamimul Alam. He also hoped that the friendly ties between Bangladesh and Japan would be strengthened further in the days to come by this initiative.
