Attack on VP Nur, others: DU probe body asks for info, evidences

The probe body to investigate into the attack at Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) on Thursday asked evidences of the assault, on VP Nur and 30 others.
Some activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Muktijuddha Mancha allegedly carried out the attacks on Sunday at DUCSU office that sparked widespread protests.
In a press release issued by Public Relation Office of Dhaka University on Thursday said, ‘interested witnesses or person to give statement or evidences are requested to submit their information within December 28 at the Dean’s office of Arts faculty’.
Earlier on Monday, Dhaka University authorities formed a six-member probe body to investigate into the incident.
Dean of the Faculty of Arts Professor Abu Md. Delwar Hossain has been made head of the committee which was asked to submit the reports in six working days, a DU press release said on Monday.
Other members on the committee are Shamsunnahar Hall provost Professor Supriya Saha, Sir PJ Hartog International Hall Provost Prof Mohiuddin, DU Senate Member Prof Asim Sarkar, Syndicate Member Mizanur Rahman, and university Assistant Proctor Prof Mainul Karim.
Prof Abu Md. Delwar Hossain said that the investigation was underway and they already began inquiry of witnesses also hoped to submit their report within the stipulated timeframe.
Regarding CCTV footage, Delwar said, “It was impossible for them to recover the CCTV footage so they seek assistance from law enforcement agencies and if they succeed the footage would be taken for investigation”.
Meanwhile, police on Thursday morning recovered a cocktail like objects in front of the old gate of Institute of Business Administration near Madhur Canteen of Dhaka University.
Witnesses said they noticed the object at the spot around 11:30am and soon after they informed the Ramna Police Station and later a bomb disposal unit disposed it off around 12:00pm.
DU Proctor Golam Rabbani said a vested quarter hatching conspiracy to destabilise the campus.
Meanwhile, Dhaka Medical College Hospital director Brig Gen AKM Nasir Uddin on Thursday said that all the injured were now out of danger and three of them including DUCSU VP Nur would be release soon.
He made the statement at a press conference held in DMCH on Thursday.
Sohel, one of the injured, who undergo a surgery on Wednesday after sustainin head injuries condition, has been improved now and will soon be transferred to the hospital’s High Dependency Unit from Intensive Care Unit, he added
Another injured, Farabi, is being kept in the HDU and medical experts were monitoring them and the duo will be shifted to cabins on Saturday, said Nasir Uddin.
Aminul, who also sustained critical injuries also being treated under the Kidney department of the hospital as he had kidney infections too, he added.
The DMCH director also said the medical board has been extended to a 13-member team.
Bin Yamin Mollah, joint convener of Bangladesh Student Right Protection Council on Wednesday claimed DMCH authorities provided wrong information to the media on the victims’ condition on Tuesday morning and trying to hide the actual info from the people as truth may infuriate them.
