DU Correspondent :
The Pro-Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University (DU) Professor Akhatarujjaman on Wednesday criticized the World communities and all Noble Prize laureates on Peace for their silence and failure to stop the genocide of Rohingya Muslims in the Rakhine State of Myanmar.
He said, Nobel Prize is given for contribution to peace. The price winners talk on various issues but say nothing about the Rohingya people, who are floating in the river, at sea. It is very unfortunate that the Nobel laureates do not stand by the helpless.
He came up with the remarks from a human chain as the chief guest at the foot of Aparajeo Bangla Sculpture of DU protesting the ongoing communal attack on Hindus at Nasirnagar of Brahmanbariha, Santals in Gaibandha and Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.
Inter-Religious and Inter-Cultural Dialogue Center of DU and World Religion and Culture Department jointly organized the human chain and silent procession.
Criticizing Myanmar’s Nobel laureate leader Aung Sang Suu Kyi, the Pro-VC said, how could a Nobel laureate remain silent about the genocide in her country? If it continues, then people will raise question about her Nobel Prize on Peace.
Pro-VC said, torturing on the Rohingya people is a crime against humanity. To stop repeating the crimes against minorities at home and abroad, proper action should be taken against the offenders.
Fazrin Huda presided over the function, while Professor Syed Anwar Husain, Professor Kazi Nurul Islam, founder Chairman of World Religion and Culture Department and Professor Father Tapan D Rojario spoke at the function.
