DU Correspondent :
Pro-BNP teachers of Dhaka University (DU) on Sunday under white panel demanded Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s unconditional release.
The demand came from a hour long sit-in-strike of BNP-Jamaat backed white panel teachers at the base of Aparajeo Bangla inside the campus around 11.30am.
While reading out a written statement, Convener of the panel Professor BM Obaidul Islam said, “Democracy is being annihilated by the government through abducting freedom of
speech. Government implanted the last pin of repression by passing Digital Security Act.”
“There won’t be no election taken place without unconditional release of Begum Khaleda Zia. So meet the demands of Jatiya Oikkya Front by time,” he added.
Addressing the January 5, 2014 election as farce, he said: “People of the country are yet to cast their vote under Sheikh Hasina willingly.”
Joint Convener of white panel Professor Siddiqur Rahman Khan said, “We want to keep faith on the judiciary system Bangladesh but cannot do so while the former Chief Justice SK Sinha faced injustice.”
“Release Khaleda Zia unconditionally, we don’t want any injustice with her,” Dr Rahman added.
Professor Mamun Ahmed, Professor Sukomol Barua, Professor Hasanuzzaman, Professor Mahfuzul Haque, Professor Jasim Uddin were also present among others.
