DSE turnover nears two-month low on lackluster trade

Business Report :The daily turnover at Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) neared two-month low on Sunday as market saw lackluster trade.The dull trade pulled the broader DSEX index below 4500-point mark at early trading before it was supported by small stocks of textile, service and fuel and power sectors to crawl up to close at 4511.46. The micro-cap gained over 1.0 percent despite the dull trading as a number of investors focused on monetizing small-cap volatilities.The prime index, however, closed 8.38 points lower, with the two selective blue-chip DS30 and Shariah inching down to end the session at 1731.04 and 1103.09 respectively.The daily trade value was down by 24.21 percent to Taka 308 crore when the volume fell by 19.39 percent to 8.79 crore shares.”Market continued consolidation in a sideways movement amid the release of some insipid economic data. Among the major economic updates, the disbursement of industrial term loans dropped by more than 28 percent in the third quarter (Q3) of the outgoing 2014-15 fiscal year mainly due to political turmoil (during this period)”, said Lanka Bangla Securities Limited.Out of traded 318 issues, 148 closed lower when 120 ended up and 50 remained unchanged.IDLC Investment limited attributed the dull trade to the shortened trading hours during Ramadan when scope of activities reduced.Almost all the major sectors, however, gained in market cap. The major gainers were bank and fuel and power sectors while cement, IT and telecom were the major lagging sectors.The major advancing issues were 1st Prime MF, Hakkani Pulp, KPPL, Golden Harvest and AFC Agro. The major lagging issues included National Life, Shympur Sugar, Northern Jute, Continental Insurance and 7th ICBMF.KPCL topped the turnover list followed by RAK Ceramic, BSRM Ltd, FAR Chemical, United Air, SA Port and Saif Power.DSE also witnessed dull trading last week when most of the institutional investors remained inactive.Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed lower on Sunday, with CSCX finishing 2.83 points down at 8455.79. Out of traded 228 issues, only 96 closed higher when 101 suffered loss and 31 remained unchanged.
