DSE turnover crosses Tk 2100cr

With active participation of investors, the daily turnover value at Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) today crossed Taka 2,100 crore, the highest in over six years.
The day’s trade value at the close of Monday’s trade stood at Taka 2,180.79 crore, which was the highest after December 6, 2010 when the transaction value was Taka 2,710.62 crore.
The DSE trade volume also surged to a new high when it closed at 70.34 crore shares on Monday. The record transaction supported the price indices of the bourse to reach a new high.
DSEX, the major index of DSE, added 66.95 points at close to finish the day at 5669.80. The DSES for Shariah based securities and the DS30 for blue-chip shares also followed the same trend though with marginal rise to end at 1297.60 and 2024.63 respectively.
The upward movement of the indices was also supported by high turnover and bullish trend in trading of large-cap securities including banking issues.
Besides bank, tannery industries and other financial institutions were the major advancing sectors when the major lagging sectors included fuel and power and food and allied. Out of 328 traded issues, 159 gained and 142 incurred losses.
The day’s major gainers were Fortune Shoes, Islamic Bank, Phoenix Finance, Al-Arafah Islami Bank and Paramount Textile. The day’s major losers were CVOPRL, Samata Leather, Rahima Food, BD Auto Cars and Beximco Synthetic. Beximco Limited topped the turnover leaders followed by Baraka Power, Islami Bank, Lanka Bangla Finance, Lafarge Surma Cement and AB Bank.
