Two teams of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in separate drives arrested 11 people, including four muggers involved with August 19 Moghbazar robbery and bomb blast, from the city’s different areas early Wednesday, police said.
A team of Detective Branch (DB) arrested four muggers involved with Moghbazar robbery and seized bombs, bomb-making materials and locally-made weapons from the city’s Rampura, Khilgaon and Gulistan areas early Wednesday. The arrested persons have been identified as Kalam Hawlader, 28, Md Khalilur Rahman, 35, Md Golam Sarowar, 27, and Md Nayan, 24, police said. DMP’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Saidur Rahman confirmed the matter and said that the law enforcers conducted raids in the capital’s Rampura, Khilgaon and Gulistan areas
at night and arrested the muggers with the country-made weapons, bombs and a huge cache of bomb-making materials.
The police official said that they were involved with a robbery of Tk 30.60 lakh from five employees of a distributor of Akij Group after blasting several crude bombs at Moghbazar on August 19.
He added that the arrested persons confessed in primary interrogation in the police custody that they were involved with the robberies, mugging and toll collection in the areas.
In another incident, DMP’s Deputy Commissioner (Media Wing) Masudur Rahman said that a police team conducted a drive in the city’s Kafrul area around 5:00am and arrested seven members of a Malam party from the spot. The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammad Bachchu, Shakil Ahmed, Mohammad Rana, Jahangir Hossain, Arifuzzaman alias Arif, Saiful Islam and Roni.
The DC said that police also seized a microbus, two swords, iron rods and arms.
A case was registered with the Kafrul Police Station in this connection, he further said.
