DSE ends week with straight rise for nine sessions

Trading at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) ended Thursday, with the broader index rising for the nine days in a row and eventually crossing 4800-point mark again. The daily trade value and volume also rose substantially at the last session of the week.
DSEX finished the day with a phenomenal 66.41 points rise to 4808.39 as market remained buoyant with strong buying interest. The blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES also advanced significantly during the week to close Thursday at 1888.83 and 1195.22 respectively.
“Stable economic and political outlook, coupled with better expected corporate earnings fueled the buying spree. At this point, market is perceived to get some solid direction, which induced investors to go long on stocks with better prospects in coming days”, said Lanka Bangla Securities Limited (LBSL).
The trade value at DSE rose by 13.81 percent to Taka 813.95 crore on Thursday when the volume was up by 23.46 percent to 17.41 crore shares.
Cement, banking and pharmaceuticals stocks were in the preferred list of investors this week when these sectors registered 7.2 percent, 4.9 percent and 4.6 percent gain respectively. Tannery, NBFI and general insurance were also among the major gainers with 6.42 percent, 6.34 percent and 5.73 percent gain accordingly.
The major losing sectors were Telecommunication (-1.01 percent) and service and real-estate (-0.45 percent). Among the top gaining companies were Islami Bank (32.4 percent), Pragati Life (25.2 percent) and BSRM Ltd (21.3 percent) when the major losing securities included BD Welding (-9.1 percent), Saiham Cotton (-8.1 percent) and Meghna Pet (-6.3 percent).
At the last session of the week, Al-Haj Tex, BD Lamps, BSRM Limited, CMC Kamal and Central Insurance were at the top of the day’s 170 advancing issues. Conversely, ICB1stNBR, Meghna Petroleum, Agrani Insurance, Hakkani Pulp and Saiham Cotton were the major losers among 97 lagging issues.
The turnover leader was Lafarge Surma followed by Squire Pharma, RAK Cermaic, ACI, KPCL and GP.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also finished week positive, with major CSCX index closing 116.95 points higher at 8965.25.
Out of the traded 265 issues, 150 advanced, 77 incurred loss and 38 remained static when 1.30 crore shares worth Taka 52.64 crore changed hands.
