A Dhaka court yesterday granted bail to Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Ward Councillor and Shabujbagh Thana Awami League General Secretary Chittaranjan Das after he surrendered to the court in a case filed on the charge of violating a woman.
Magistrate Begum Mahmuda Akter allowed the bail on a bond of Tk five thousand, after Chittaranjan surrendered to her court with an appeal seeking bail in the case.
Dhaka Bar Association President Abdul Baten, former General Secretary of the bar Mizanur Rahman Mamun and some other lawyers moved the bail petition on behalf of the accused Chittaranjan. The prosecution opposed the bail plea. Public Prosecutor Azadur Rahman told it to the media people.
The victim woman filed a case with Shabujbagh Police Station after the video of violation became viral. The victim claimed herself as a media-woman in the First Information Report (FIR).
The victim’s father-in-law has a shop adjacent to Shabujbagh Kalibari road. When they wanted to improve the condition of the shop through innovation, the Councillor claimed an extortion amounting to Tk 40,000 to the poor peddler.
The victim wanted to know the fact about the extortion and telephoned the Councillor at around 8 pm on September 11. The accused asked her to go to Kalibari Office at a quarter to 10 pm.
After the victim went there with her husband, accused Chittaranjan asked her to sit in a room nearby. Then the accused went to the room and asked the victim to stand up and immediately the accused embraced her and touched the sensitive parts of body. He was posing indecently and proposed to copulate with her.
However, the victim did not cry there in the interest of her fame and reputation, the FIR added.
